Saving Energy in Smart Cities: Data Collection, Data Analysis and Gamification

Reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions in order to tackle climate change requires a behavioural change from citizens. To this end, practices and tools for collecting energy consumption data (e.g. from smart meters) and processing them to identify correlations and generate useful information are of great importance. Data and analysis results can be presented through interactive means, increasing citizens’ direct awareness of the energy consequences of their actions, and can also be used through various gamification processes to change citizens’ energy behaviour and adopt environmentally friendly practices.
