«Climate change
and New Technologies»

The 2nd Festival of Robotics & Intelligent Systems and the International Scientific Conference on “Climate Change and New Technologies” are being organized by the Municipality of Kalamata as part of a double innovation initiative.

This dual effort is a part of the Municipality of Kalamata’s overall strategy for supporting youth and education, as well as the initiatives brought on by the Municipality’s participation in the European Mission for “100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030.”

The conference’s objectives include developing and exploring a wide range of scientific topics, as well as exposing young people to cutting-edge technology and increasing awareness of issues related to the growth of contemporary and climate-resilient cities.

How to reach us

The “East Peloponnese Highway,” “Olympia Odos,” and “Aegean Motorway” are the three highways that connect Kalamata to Athens and Thessaloniki by road.

Athens is 239 kilometers away, and it takes roughly 2 hours and 10 minutes to travel there.

Thessaloniki is 715 kilometers away, and travel time is roughly 6.5 hours.

Venue

The conference will take place at Kalamata’s Pantazopouleios Laiki Skolio Municipal Cultural Center, located at 33 Aristomenes.

Costas Vasilakis

Costas Vasilakis

Professor Kostas Vassilakis teaches "Information Systems" in the University of Peloponnese's Department of Informatics and Telecommunications, and he also serves as the school's dean. Both his B.Sc. and Ph.D. were awarded to him by the University of Athens' Department of Computer Science. He has contributed to more than 30 European and national research and development projects, including the European projects Foresight, Cyber-Trust, and Crosscult as well as the national projects TripMentor, Rehabotics, ENIRISST, ENIRISST+, and PaloAnalytics. He has also published more than 230 scientific papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He serves as a reviewer for many scholarly publications and has served on several conference program committees. Information systems, recommender systems, systems architecture, software engineering, and cultural informatics are some of his scientific interests.
Vasilis Dionysopoulos

Vasilis Dionysopoulos

Head of E-Government Department of the Municipality of Kalamata since 2011. He received his BEng degree in Computer Engineering and Informatics from University of Patras and his MSc degree in Information Processing and Neural Networks from University of London (King’s College London). He is also a graduate of the Greek National School of Public Administration and Local Government. He has worked as a postgraduate researcher at the University of London (King's College London), as a Mainframe Systems Programmer at British Airways and as a Research and Development Software Engineer at Nortel Networks. He has significant contributions to the Municipality of Kalamata’s strategic planning, the design and development of digital government services as well as the design and implementation of smart city projects. He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, I.E.E.E. and A.C.M.
Fotis Asimakopoulos

Fotis Asimakopoulos

Fotis Asimakopoulos has a BSc in Physics from the Department of Physics at the University of Ioannina and an MSc in Computer Science with a focus on Smart Cities and Intelligent Agriculture systems from the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunications at the School of Economics and Technology of the University of Peloponnese. He is a PhD student at the University of Peloponnese and the Mayor of Kalamata's Special Advisor for the Municipality of Kalamata's Digital and Technological Upgrading. His area of expertise is Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and he has worked on the planning and implementation teams for both the Kalamata Space Student Program and the first Robotics & Intelligent Systems Festival.
Vasilis Papaefstathiou

Vasilis Papaefstathiou

Graduate of the School of Civil Engineering at NTUA, with postgraduate studies at the School of Architecture at NTUA (MSc Architecture and Urban Planning) and at the School of Technological Applications at NTUA (MSc Environmental Design of Cities and Buildings). He is a PhD candidate in architecture at NTUA. He is a co-founder of the interdisciplinary group "Eu-topos", which organised the exhibition "Imagine the City: Kalamata 2015". He works to improve public space and the environment where people live. He also takes part in projects like Kalamatamove, an interactive platform that helps disabled people in Kalamata get around, and Voices through the Buildings, an electronic database that records and promotes Kalamata's buildings.
Athanasios Makios

Athanasios Makios

Graduated Physicist from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with postgraduate studies in Bioeconomy, Circular Economy and Sustainable Development from the University of Piraeus. I have worked for several years as an administrator of computer systems in large IT centers in Athens. For the last twelve years, I have been working as an Environmental Manager in the family business "KLIMIS" based in Kalamata, and I am responsible for all procedures related to the company's ISO quality assurance and environmental management standards. I am also a member of the strategic planning team and coordinator of the circular economy and waste management axis of the Municipality of Kalamata in the "Mission" (Mission) of the city of Kalamata to the 100 Climate Neutral and Smart European cities by 2030.
