Ioannis Karakikes

Dr. Ioannis Karakikes earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Thessaly’s (PTH) Faculty of Engineering in 2012. He graduated from the Technische Universitaet Muenchen (TUM) in 2015 with a Master’s degree in “Transport Systems” with a focus on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and in 2021 he received a PhD from the PTH Department of Civil Engineering.

Difficulties in collecting and using road freight transport movement data

Freight transport is an important part of urban mobility and has a major impact on the economy and society. By including freight transport in smart city planning, we can achieve reduced congestion, improved quality of life, and increased system efficiency. However, collecting and using road freight data is a challenge due to several difficulties. This paper aims to list these difficulties and propose solutions.
