Panagiota Mavrogenidou

In 2019 I completed my studies at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Thessaly, obtaining a specialization in traffic engineering. My undergraduate thesis, entitled “Modelling the impact of ITS on traffic”, was successfully presented at the Transportation Research Board (Trb) Annual Meeting 2019. In 2022, I completed my studies in the postgraduate program “Spatial Planning for Sustainable and Resilient Development” at the Department of Spatial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Now, I am a PhD student at the University of the Aegean under the supervision of Professor Amalia Polydoropoulou. The title of my PhD thesis is “The development of carfree urban zones based on an integrated micromobility system” , while at the same time I am participating in the National Research Infrastructure ENIRISST Plus, as the person responsible for the development of the service “Micromobility on the islands”.

Micromobility in Modern Cities

In modern cities, micromobility is an issue of growing importance and interest, as it contributes to addressing major challenges they face, such as increased traffic, lack of parking space and air pollution. This presentation will introduce the concepts of micromobility and present its applications in different cities. In addition, the current situation, infrastructure, and services identified in Greece will be analysed, while the advantages, barriers to wider adoption of micromobility and the prospects for its development and implementation will be discussed.
